The race for the Kenya Premier League title is more alive than it has been all season after leaders Kakamega Homeboyz have been on a wretched run of form.

Homeboyz have gone 5 games without victory and though they remain top with 56 points, they are now only one point ahead of a revamped Tusker FC.

Champions Tusker beat Homeboyz 2-0 over the weekend in Ruaraka to keep alive their hopes of retaining the title they won last season, extending their unbeaten run to 17 matches.

Homeboyz might suffer more with Mathare United’s relegation, having dished out their third walkover on Friday, when they failed to honour their match against Sofapaka.

According to the FKF rules and regulations, all teams which played Mathare in the second half of the season will have their points deducted and this will be a huge blow to Homeboyz who had beaten the Slum Boys in the second leg.

The brewers next assignment is a trip to Nairobi City Stars who are in fourth place after a narrow 1-0 win against relegation-threatened Wazito FC on Monday.

City Stars have 49 points from 29 games and are on course for a top 3 finish during their first season back in the Kenyan top flight.

Bandari FC are standing in between them and that third place spot and they extended their unbeaten run with a 2-0 victory over Posta Rangers last Saturday.

KCB continued their poor run of from that stretched their winless run to 8 games after they played out to a 2-2 draw against Talanta.

The stalemate leaves them in 8th place with 40 points, level with Talanta who are a place below them on the table.

On Sunday, the biggest rivalry in Kenyan football pitting Gor Mahia and eternal rivals AFC Leopards ended in a 1-1 draw at the Kasarani Stadium.

Victor Omune gave Ingwe a first half lead but six minutes after the interval, Bernard Omalla was on target to salvage a point for the record KPL winners.

Gor remain in 5th place with 47 points, 8 ahead of Leopards who round off the top 10.

At the foot of the table, Mathare United have already been relegated to the National Super League and it is left to see who will be joining them in the second tier next season.

Vihiga Bullets made a strong statement over the weekend with a thrilling 4-3 victory against Kariobangi Sharks, in only their sixth win of the season.

Bullets now have 26 points, 3 shy of Nzoia Sugar who are in 15th and have a realistic chance of avoiding the axe.

Wazito's recent loss leaves them in 17th place with 22 points and need a miracle in their last couple of matches if they are to avoid being relegated at the end of the season.
